Help on removal and fitting rubber glazing seal.

REMOVAL OF OLD WINDOW.
This is best undertaken with two people!!
Start by prising out one end of the filler/locking strip and pulling out all the way round.
Now from the inside of on the top edge of the seal apply light pressure to the glazing in the centre and peal down the lip of the seal moving pressure from side to side and pealing trim down to the left and right of the starting point.
It is advisable to have someone else on the out side to hold the window as it comes out.
FITTING NEW SEAL AND GLAZING
Start by measuring the length of the old seal against the new one but add a little extra in case the old seal has shrunk which can happen.( We always give you a little extra for this purpose)
If this is a first fit glazing, offer the seal into the window frame pushing into the corners working round to the start point, add a little extra to make sure the seal is tight in the frame cutting ends as straight as possible.
Now fit the seal onto the glazing making sure the join is at the bottom, and the filler strip grove is on the outside.
Using strong cord something around 1.5-2mm slot in round the outside edge of the window seal ensuring the ends overlap on the bottom edge and the cord is long enough to get a good grip. It is sometimes good to wrap the cord round a dowel of wood or similar to get a good grip. Using a silicone lubricant or soapy water apply around the outside edge and into the seal aperture where the cord is. The tool for the job is available off our site (NERWST14).
Now offer the bottom edge of the trim onto the bottom edges of the window frame making sure the cord ends are on the inside of the frame, and pushing as much as possible onto the frame.
While someone on the outside holds the seal and glazing down onto the frame, from the inside side start to pull out the cord at 90 deg horizontal to the window frame, moving the cord in a circular motion slowly peeling the lip of the seal over the window frame, moving from one side of the cord to the other.
As the window is going in, slight slapping on the glazing with the palm of a hand from the outside will help the glazing in onto the frame.
During this stage the use of a Spatula may be usefull to help ease the seal over the frame lip and into position, this is a plastic tool with no sharp edges that may damage your new seal. Useing things like screwdrivers to ease the seal in must be avoided. Tools available of our site A: (Window Rubber Fitting Spatula With Chisel End & Rounded End.) B: (Window Rubber Fitting Spatula With Two Rounded Ends.)
This must not be rushed, if the cord slips out you may have to start again.
FITTING THE LOCKING/FILLER STRIP
Two types of filler insert tool available from our site:
www.northeasternrubber.co.uk
Measure the length of filler needed adding a little more, to ensure a tight fit,
this can always be trimmed later.
Apply lubricant to the filler strip aperture and filler strip, soapy water works
very well.
Slot the strip through the loop from the front with the tip pointing upward on the
inserting tool, now slide the loop of the tool into the filler strip aperture,
ensuring it is not at the same place as the window seal joint.
Try to keep the loop level and flat in the filler grove so the handle is at an
angle to the seal.
Waggle the tool from side to side slowly through the grove ensuring the filler
strip is falling into the grove behind it while feeding the strip through the loop.
Do not stretch the filler as this may pull back later creating a gap.
When you get back to the start point cut the filler strip 3-4mm longer and push
into the grove ensuring a tight fit.
